
NLE Choppa, formerly known as YNR Choppa, is the stage name of Memphis, Tennessee-native Bryson Lashun Potts, a rapper who was born on November 1, 2002. His breakthrough song, “Shotta Flow,” from 2019, reached the top-40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and was given a platinum certification by the RIAA. He also released his first EP in 2019, Cottonwood.
August 7, 2020 saw the release of Top Shotta, NLE Choppa’s debut studio album. The singles “Camelot” and “Walk Em Down” (with Roddy Ricch), which both peaked in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, were included, and it reached its highest point on the US Billboard 200, where it reached number ten. The next year, on November 1, NLE Choppa dropped his second mixtape, From Dark to Light.

Bryson Lashun Potts was born on November 1, 2002, to Jamaican mother Angeleta Ellis and an African American father. He was born and reared in the Parkway Village neighborhood of Southeast Memphis, Tennessee, and attended Cordova High School, where he participated in basketball. At the age of 15, he started freestyling with his boyhood pals Austin, Gino, and Charlie. At the age of 16, he began really studying music.
