In August of 1958 Porsche revised the 356A/1600 Speedster into the Convertible D. In many ways this reflected Porsches desire to make more expensive and premium models. As a result, the $3,695 Convertible was much more expensive than the Speedster it replaced.
As such the new car featured roll-up windows for the first time, a more robust hardtop and a higher windshield for more headroom. Porsche retained the chrome-ringed windshield trim which was iconic of the Speedster.

The Maui County Council will honor the 105th anniversary of T Komoda Store and Bakery, long known for its glazed donuts, butter rolls and other baked goods, during the council’s meeting on Friday.
Council Member Mike Molina, whose district includes Makawao where the bakery is located, announced Wednesday that he has introduced a resolution for Friday’s meeting congratulating the business on its anniversary. Founded by Takezo Komoda in 1916, the store sold mostly sandwiches on its homemade bread, saimin and donuts to local cowboys and plantation workers.
